Mengele's role in Physical and Mental Torture
Mengele used physical and mental torture to the prisoners who arrived at Auschwitz. Mengele would have women undress and parade in front of him. He once split a man's skull in half. One woman tried to run away from the gas chambers so Mengele ripped off her ears and flattened her nose. Mengele's physical torture was extreme. For example, a prisoner made him so angry that he shot the prisoner. He then pushed a pregnant woman to the ground and kicked her in the stomach until her baby was aborted. Mengele would occasionally cut his subjects and rub sawdust in their wounds. A holocaust survivor who dealt with mental torture states, "First time I went to use the latrine located at the end of children's barrack, I was greeted by the scattered corpses of several children lying on the ground. I think that image will stay with me forever"(Grabowski,56). He performed many odd experiments. For example, Mengele would have the hair of twins plucked off. Some of the experiments were just so the subjects would feel pain. These experiments made Josef Mengele extremely sadistic. Josef Mengele used Torture on an abundance of prisoners.
