What role did Josef Mengele play in the atrocities of Auschwitz?
Introduction
There was an abundance of awful occasions in World War II. An ample amount of these events occurred during the Holocaust. Several incidents happened in the Concentration Camps. One of the most horrific camps was Auschwitz. Auschwitz had one of the most sadistic man to ever live on earth, Josef Mengele. Mengele was infamous for his inhumane medical experiments.
Mengele was the oldest of a Bavarian industrialist. He earned a Ph.D. in physical anthropology from the University of Munich. He researched hereditary biology and racial hygiene while assisting Dr. Otmar van Verschuer. In 1937, Josef Mengele joined the Schutzstaffeln (SS). Josef Mengele transferred to Auschwitz on May 30, 1943. He became the highest ranking physician at the camp. He was known as the “Angel of Death.” Mengele is known for performing selection when the prisoners arrived to the camp. Josef Mengele’s role in Auschwitz was selection, medical experiments, and physical and mental torture. |
